Have you ever seen a "red sprite"? These are optical phenomena, often taken on what's been described as a "jellyfish" like appearance-\-\and they take place high in the atmosphere ABOVE some thunderstorms. Here's a photo of one over Oklahoma taken just days ago over Oklahoma by photographer Paul Smith, who operates the website " spritechaser.com ". Red sprites are hardly everyday occurrences and are not easily seen. Red sprites are different from lightning. They're referred to as "cool plasma phenomena". They occur above thunderstorms and can extend above the tops of these storms to altitudes as high as 60 miles....
